Around this time last year, I mentioned on Instagram that my wardrobe needed a serious overhaul. That later changed to deciding to do a full makeover. When I came to this decision there were three areas in particular that I was focusing on. Of course, life got in the way and other issues pulled my focus away from my goals, but now I’m determined to see this through. In fact, I’m made some pretty good leeway in certain areas.
Fitness

In another post, I mentioned cutting off my locs in December of 2023. There were many factors that played into my decision to do so. One of them being convenience. My hair was waist length, which at this point in my life was just too much. So, I cut it. And then I cut it again. And now I love it. For now, my focus is on pampering my hair. On giving it all of the nourishment that it can stand. I’ve made no plans to grow out my hair. I’m happy with my short natural cut. I think it’s beautiful just as it is.
When I was young, I ran track and played soccer. In the military, I was used to running at the very least a 20-minute two-mile. And even after the military I continued to run because I really, really loved it. A few years ago, changing to a new job forced me to alter my running schedule. Pushing it to the evenings, which I hated. It wasn’t long before other things got in the way and eventually my routine fell to the wayside. Oh yeah, and there was this little thing called the pandemic. So, it should come as no surprise when I say I’ve gained a few pounds. I do want to lose weight, but more importantly for me is just moving. I want to make getting up and moving everyday a normal part of my life again. Not just a chore that needs to get done. I’ve been exercising for nearly two months now and seeing positive changes. It feels good to get up and get out more.

Style

Well, my wardrobe isn’t so beautiful. It has some beautiful pieces in it, but I would say functional is the word to best describe it. I can dress for work, a school event, or a dinner date (a conservative one), but that’s about it. Maybe, a yoga class. I’ve got plenty of yoga pants. And tee shirts.
My sense of style has changed over the years and I’m relearning what I like and don’t like. And what works well with my body type. I want to dig deeper into fashion and create a classic wardrobe that is well organized and timeless. And comfortable. I want to be able to easily put together outfits that I will feel and look good in.
I’ve barely gotten started with working on my wardrobe, but before I dive too deep, I want to start with what I already have. I want to take those beautiful pieces and turn them into an outfit or two and continue to build from there.
So, these are the three areas that I’ll be focusing on in the next few months. You’ll see many posts and updates to keep you abreast of my progress. Do you having anything that you’re working towards changing? If so, let’s talk in the comments.
Until next time,
