In August this year, I decided it was time for me to make a change. Over the last few years, I’ve gained weight and no longer felt comfortable in my own body. Most of my clothes no longer fit and I stopped making an effort to dress well. I didn’t feel horrible about my appearance, but I didn’t feel good about it either. I was just going through the motions.
Every blue moon, I’d get the urge to exercise or go for a run. I’ve been exercising off and on for a large part of my life and would often get runner’s high. I missed that sense of euphoria. After experiencing another episode where my body was begging me to get moving, I decided it was time to get back into a fitness routine.
After purchasing a new scale (my old one died) and a new pair of running shoes, I began a 7-day jump start to get back in the habit of going to the gym. For 7 days, come rain or high water, I had to walk for 30 minutes. I completed my 7 days without a hitch. It felt so good to get up and moving that I decided to extend my 7-day jump start to a 30-day challenge.

In addition to walking, I began to do other exercise routines. I have a weight lifting program that I love, but I often get bored doing the same thing day in and day out. So, to help me stay engaged, I went on Pinterest and found a few 1-month or 30-day routines to help me get started.

I’ve been working out for 6 weeks and I feel good. I’m making changes to my diet and making sure I stay hydrated. Every two weeks or so I weight myself to monitor my progress. I did give myself a goal weight, but I’m not pushing to be some ideal number. My ultimate goal is to be healthy, which will include putting on muscle. With that in mind, I understand that how much I weigh is not as important as how I look and feel. I also have to take into consideration that I am older. What I did in my twenties, won’t work the same for me now. So, I have to be patient with myself and learn to enjoy the process. This isn’t a race. It’s a lifestyle change. Or fitness reboot? Or a running restart? Anywho, I’ll be sure to keep you all up to date on my progress in the coming months. Wish me luck!
Are you currently on a fitness journey or reboot? Do you have a particular exercise that you love? I am the only one around here who gets runner’s high? Let me know in the comments below.
