If you are looking for refreshing story telling from a unique and interesting perspective, I highly recommend checking out Korean dramas (K-Dramas). I’ve been watching them for years and am constantly surprised to find so many amazing little gems. My love of K-Dramas stemmed from years of listening to Korean Pop (K-Pop) music. When some of my favorite artists began appearing in dramas, it was only natural that I began to seek them out as well and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised.
I love a good story. Whether it be in the form of movies or tv shows. But there are times when movies leave you wanting more and I don’t want to wait five or six years to complete a trilogy. Television shows can drag on for years at a time and can become monotonous and boring. Luckily, I was able to find a happy middle ground with K-Dramas. It was nice to see a limited series that told an intriguing or compelling story. A series that was long enough to develop characters, complete an overall story arc, and reach a (usually) satisfying conclusion.
With K-Dramas, the sky is the limit when it comes to storytelling. The popular series Squid Game on Netflix is a perfect example of its engaging narration that easily captures the imagination. I have watched series about serial killers, attorneys, gods, cops, goblins, K-pop fans, crazy or corrupt CEOs, ghosts, average people, nine-tailed foxes, and grim reapers. You name it and there is a story for it.
When I initially started watching K-Dramas, they were only available on a few streaming platforms such as Drama Fever (may you rest in peace), Rakuten Viki, or Asian Crush. But today you can find K-Dramas on just about any major streaming platform. So for you next movie night, if you’re looking for something a little different, consider watching a K-Drama. I’ll leave a list of suggestions below to help get you started.
